Beam, Forward by American actor Lindsay Hollister with significant contributions from Amanda Levitt, Golda Poretsky, H.H.C., Virgie Tovar and Elizabeth Walden. SometimesBeautiful features over 160 illustrations with 50 artists from 10 countries on 3 continents…in 1 book. (SB) is a celebration and contemporary analysis of the notion of beauty, defined by a selection of over 50 artists, primarily women, spanning the globe from New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, Berlin, Milan and Paris to Amsterdam, Seoul and Transylvania. They are as varied in ethnicity, race, sexual identity and interests as their choice of artistic media. (SB) challenges prescriptive beauty as defined by consumerism and media machines. This project considers such themes as is organized through the following tenets—Beauty, Fetish, Voyeur, Taboo, Distorted and Aversive. (SB) takes us beyond accepted narratives, discourses and speaks to the plurality of beauty, hopefully precluding disingenuous perceptions and cynical responses, and offers a broadened vision of diversity in modern culture.
