{Body Positive Adventure Portrait} Danielle Bex
Recently, I talked a little bit about the risks of movement in a larger body. In Ms. H’s hula dance portraits, you can see that the reward for her taking that risk is a beautiful, skilled, graceful performance.
Through her Instagram, Danielle Bex also demonstrates daily how joyful movement can be.
She often posts pictures there of herself doing yoga, as well as a daily twirl that really shows her own joy in her body.
For Danielle’s body positive portrait session, we struck out on an epic, day-long journey.
We started off at Seattle’s Alki Beach, twirling on the waterfront.
Danielle then proved that ANYONE can feel and look amazing and confident in a bikini!
On our way out of town, we ducked down an alley to spend a few minutes at the Benbow Room tavern and its fabulous pirate mural.
Our real destination for the day, though, was Lake Crescent, a famously clear blue lake tucked away in the wilderness of the Olympic Mountains.
We explored the forest near the lake a bit…
…then settled down for a demonstration of Danielle’s serious yoga skills.
This woman is insanely flexible. I once asked her to lean back a bit, and she kept going…and going…and going.
It’s plain to see the joy in her movement as she moved into each pose on the lake shore.
As the sun set, we shifted gears a bit, and Danielle spent some time looking wistful and wild at the water’s edge.
Why should only thin women get to look like the heroine of an epic novel?
Fat girls get to be princesses, too.
xoxo,
Lindley
