{The Body Liberation Guide} Hard to be liberated when you’re dead

Hi friend,

I spent last week on partial strike in support of a ceasefire in Palestine, and in mourning for the 20,000+ Gazans dead and thousands more starving to death.

I saw news of the strike just after I’d sent out last week’s newsletter, so I didn’t have a chance to mention it there, but I knew that it was the right decision to participate as much as I could on short notice.

So I shut down the shopping cart on my site and my booking calendar, and didn’t take any sales or bookings all last week.

Honestly, I’d love to be apolitical in my work. It would be so much easier to keep my mouth shut, and smile and nod, and click the camera shutter, and say nice generic body-positive things, and never make waves.

But that’s just not who I am, and none of our bodies are truly liberated until all of our bodies are liberated.

(And it’s awfully hard to be liberated when you’re dead.)

Every time I speak about Palestine, I lose social media followers and Patreon supporters. The outgoing folks often feel the need to leave me snippy messages.

Those messages often accuse me of antisemitism for supporting a ceasefire, and of not caring or being actively in favor of Jews, particularly Israelis, being murdered.

Friend, every single piece of suffering I hear about makes my heart hurt. If I could, I’d solve all of it. I’d wave my magic wand and fix everything in the world, from the climate to oppression to individual suffering to every child’s skinned knees.

But I’m one human, and I have to choose my battles. I’m not going to litigate my choices here, but I will say that I’m at peace with doing what I’m able to protest the slaughter of tens of thousands of civilians.

I’m always going to stand up for what I feel is right.

If that’s not your cup of tea, please also go in peace.

I had planned to launch a big, exciting new program in today’s letter, but it doesn’t feel right to do that today, so you’ll hear about that next week.

Warmly,
Lindley
